Say what?? Yeah.. it took me a minute too. LOL!! That is the snappy title of the new Chicagoland travel book of ChiTown’s own Melissa Wells. The full title is “Chicken In The Car and the Car Won’t Go: Nearly 200 Way to Enjoy Chicagoland with Teens and Tweens”. If you have kids, or specifically teens and tweens, you will love this book for telling you the great things to do in Chicago. The title stems from an old saying to help folks remember how to spell Chicago.
A little over a week ago, I attended Melisa’s awesome launch party on a boat tour of the Chicago Skyline and river. It was great! Cold, but great. The party had some great sponsors, food, attendees, and fun. We got to experience Chicago as a tourist would. And the tour was timed perfectly with us getting to experience the sites both during the day, and at night.
I must admit, I have been here for 37 years, yet when someone who is visiting Chicago asks me what to do while they are here, I usually go “Um, well.. hmm…” It’s hard when you are used to a city to think of it from the view of a tourist. But, Melissa covers it all in her book. And I think it’s great for others too. Not just those with teens. In this Chicagonista interview, she talks to MJ Tam about how the book came about.
The book is filled with Melissa’s logic and humor. She even got her young boys involved in helping get together the great list of places that make up the book. I see a few of my favorite places in there such as the Robie house on the University of Chicago campus. There are sections on crafting in Chicago, and even pages dedicated to hot dogs!
Melisa is one of my favorite people and I am VERY happy to support her efforts with this awesome book. Support a fellow Chicago are mom and check out the book. You can purchase it on her website. And, please stop by and LIKE her on Facebook.
Below are some photos that I took the day of the event. You can see them all on my Flickr page.
